Championship Gameweek 6 Results Round Up

Hull vs Coventry

As predicted, the game was tight with little between the two sides. Hull deservingly got a late equaliser through Aaron Connolly who continues his great form. Scott Twine played well also being fouled a match-high seven times. That goal return is coming. Luis Binks was perhaps lucky to stay on the pitch after appearing to punch a Hull player.

My prediction: Hull 2-1 Coventry
Actual result: Hull 1-1 Coventry (0)

Leicester vs Southampton

I correctly called this the game of the weekend and what a first half it was. Southampton were an absolute mess at the back, making it back-to-back thumpings and it doesn’t get any easier for Southampton with an in-form Ipswich next.

Full credit to Leicester, they punished Southampton’s defensive errors with devastating effect. Mavididi was excellent and his pace and directness caused Southampton’s right side all kinds of problems.

My prediction: Southampton 3-2 Leicester
Actual result: Southampton 1-4 Leicester (0)

Blackburn vs Middlesborough

The Sammie Szmodics show with two big goals to cause more pain for a struggling Middlesborough. Boro were very unlucky and racked up an XG of 2.53 and Lette Lath was very wasteful in front of goal. Boro still looked extremely vulnerable at the back. Carrick needs to fix this fat as he is a man under pressure.

My prediction: Blackburn 3-1 Middlesborough
Actual result: Blackburn 2-1 Middlesborough (1)

Bristol City vs West Brom

I’ve never been more confident of a game being a draw. The game was incredibly tight – no team could find the breakthrough as they fairly shared a point. Both teams are still lingering around the mid-table.

My prediction: Bristol City 1-1 West Brom
Actual result: Bristol City 0-0 West Brom (1)

Huddersfield vs Rotherham

Vintage Huddersfield Warnock performance dominated a lacklustre Rotherham team. Both Koroma and Thomas were devastating out wide, each contributing with a goal and assist. Back-to-back wins for Huddersfield as they build up momentum.

Sadly it was announced that Neil Warnock resigned from Huddersfield this morning. The man has worked wonders there since he has arrived and I fear that a poor Huddersfield squad could be in serious trouble.

My prediction: Huddersfield 0-0 Rotherham
Actual score: Huddersfield 2-0 Rotherham (0)
Norwich vs Stoke

Norwich bounced back just about edging past Stoke in a tight affair. A rare Jack Stacey goal was the difference maker. Another top performance from Norwich’s main man Gabriel Sara as they continue their good start to the season.

Concerningly for Stoke, they have now gone three games without a goal and are seriously missing Vidigal and Mmaee. It will take Stoke time to merge in all the new players.

My prediction: Norwich 2-0 Stoke
Actual Score: Norwich 1-0 Stoke (1)
Preston vs Plymouth

Preston continue their ridiculous start. They started quick with a goal scored in the first minute, adding the second in the 25th minute. Plymouth managed to pull one back as Hardie continued his great goal-scoring form, but that wasn’t enough as Preston confirmed their fifth win in a row! More Woodman heroics.

My prediction: Preston 1-2 Plymouth
Actual Score: Preston 2-1 Plymouth (0)
QPR vs Sunderland

Former Sunderland and Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback threw the game for QPR, picking up a red just 20 minutes in with a reckless challenge. It would have been interesting to see how the game went 11 vs 11 until the end but that was not to be, because at the time QPR were one up.

From the red to the end, it was total Sunderland domination. Jack Clarke had a devastating game grabbing himself a goal. Sunderland eased to a 3-1 win continuing their good form.

My prediction: QPR 0-1 Sunderland
Actual Score QPR 1-3 Sunderland (1)
Sheffield Wednesday vs Ipswich

Very comfortable game for my Ipswich who could have easily racked up 4/5 goals – this was as dominating and convincing 0-1 you will ever see.

Sheffield Wednesday on the other hand was all over the place. Very little quality on show, said before the game don’t see where the goals come from and still don’t! Vasquez only silver lining.

Score Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 1-2 Ipswich
Actual Score: Sheffield Wednesday 0-1 Ipswich (1)
Watford vs Birmingham

I gassed Watford up a lot before the game and they rewarded me. They took their time to get the goal, adding two at the death. Birmingham fall to their first defeat of the season and the red card to Buchanan in the 88th minute proved costly.

A crucial win for Watford rewarded in typical, bizarre Watford fashion with a three-years contract for Ismael. A nice moment for Ryan Andrews getting his first Watford goal.

My prediction: Watford 2-1 Birmingham
Actual score: Watford 2-0 Birmingham (1)
Cardiff vs Swansea

One of the most boring first halves I’ve watched in a while. The game livened up in the second half much down to the incredible impact of super sub Ollie Tanner. Tanner came on and, just seconds after, piled a low-driven strike into the far corner for his first Cardiff goal in some style.

Tanner then went on to win a penalty. Question marks over whether it was in the box, but it didn’t matter as Aaron Ramsey got his dream derby goal. Ramsey was phenomenal throughout stepping up for the big occasion. Swansea dire again – I like Duff as a manager, but surely it’s time to go.

My prediction: Cardiff 2-1 Swansea
Actual score: Cardiff 2-0 Swansea (1)
Millwall vs Leeds

My fourth championship game of the weekend. Millwall started well, but that was as good as it got. Their dry spell in front of goal continued. Rowett under a lot of pressure now.

Leeds were devastating in attack and defended well. Both Rutter and Piroe had superb games, especially Rutter, Millwall couldn’t handle his driving runs. Special mention to Ethan Ampadu who was everywhere. Leeds are going to quickly skyrocket up the table.

My prediction: Millwall 1-2 Leeds
Actual score Millwall 0-3 Leeds (1)
Prediction tally

So for the predictions I get no points for the wrong result, one point for the right results and three points for the exact correct scoreline.

I got 8/12 results correct, which is a decent return but failed to get any of the score lines correct!
